Roch Cholowsky, Max Knight and Colin Daniel earn national recognition from College Baseball Foundation

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Roch Cholowsky (UCLA), Max Knight (Missouri State) and Colin Daniel (UAB) earned weekly honors from the College Baseball Foundation (CBF) for their respective performances last week.

Cholowsky earned the Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week, while Knight was named the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week. Daniel was selected as the National Pitcher of the Week.

Brooks Wallace Award Player of the Week (Nation’s Most Outstanding Shortstop)

Roch Cholowsky, IF, Sophomore, UCLA, Chandler, Ariz.

Cholowsky was red hot at the plate and in the field helping the Bruins to a 3-1 record last week, highlighted by a sweep of Penn State. Cholowsky was 7-for-15 (.466) with six RBI, five runs scored and three home runs. He also reached base twice after a hit by pitch, once via a walk and registered a stolen base. The sophomore hit a home run in each of the Bruins’ wins over Penn State last weekend upping his season batting average to .373 and expanding his home run and RBI total to 16 and 51, respectively. Cholowsky was flawless in the field, handling 20 chances without an error while racking up 15 assists and helping turn two double plays. His season fielding percentage now stands at .986.

John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week Award

Max Knight, LHP/1B, Sophomore, Missouri State, Bixby, Okla.

Knight was key in leading the Bears to three wins in four outings last week, including a mid-week win over Missouri and two victories in a weekend series against Evansville. He made two appearances on the mound, pitching a combined six shutout innings, scattering three hits and striking out 11 batters. Knight tallied his third win of the season with two scoreless innings against the Tigers in addition to a game-ending home run in the seventh inning to give the Bears an 11-0 victory. He earned his third save of the season after logging four innings and allowing only one hit and racking up nine strikeouts in Missouri State’s 7-2 win over the Aces on Saturday. It was the most strikeouts recorded by a MSU reliever since 2016. At the plate, Knight was a combined 5-for-14 (.357) with six RBI, four runs, two home runs, two walks and one stolen base in last week’s action.

National Pitcher of the Week

Colin Daniel, RHP, Junior, UAB, Corner, Ala.

Daniel tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering three hits over nine innings while striking out 13 batters in a 3-0 win over Rice on Friday. The right-hander didn’t walk a batter and closed out the Owls on 108 pitches to earn the victory. Daniel faced 28 hitters and had a strike percentage of 73.1%. He finished off the game in style striking out the side in the top of the ninth inning for his fifth victory of the season.

Brooks Wallace Award

The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding shortstop. It is a tribute to Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977-80 who passed away at age 27 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Prior to 2009, the award recognized the national player of the year.

John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award

The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation to honor the nation's top combo pitcher-position player. Olerud, who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, was a standout pitcher and first baseman at Washington State from 1987 through 1989.

National Pitcher of the Year Award

The Pitcher of the Year award, college baseball's version of the Cy Young Award which was created in 2009, is given annually to the nation's top collegiate pitcher.

Each year, more than 190 representatives nationwide vote on the College Baseball Hall of Fame induction class.
