Here are the Reds' Draft picks from Day 2

July 15th, 2025

CINCINNATI -- During the second day of the Draft, the Reds went big on pitching by selecting 10 pitchers over Rounds 4-20 on Monday. Throughout the day and true to their history, Cincinnati took the best available player each round, but there were some variances to not overdo it at one position.

"There do become times where the reality of the situation is you have to be able to service the players, and that means finding them the playing time," Reds amateur scouting director Joe Katuska said. "With the group that we have at the lower levels and especially some of the international guys that are going to be coming over to the U.S. shortly. It was a matter of finding playing time and servicing these players in the best way we can so we could get the upside.

“I think that’s why you saw it learn towards the pitching and filling it out with some of the outfielders there as well.”

High talent upside for second-day value was often the name of the game.

"We have to find that value in the upside in the Draft or international market and then develop it because we can’t go get those guys at the bigcleague level and that we understand are the best players in the game," Katuska said. "So trying to grab some of the upside here in the Draft and get them to the big leagues where they can make an impact for us is always key.”

Here is a recap of the Reds' selections on Day 2 of the Draft.

Round 4, pick 114
Mason Neville, OF
School: Oregon
Background info: Ranked as the No. 35 prospect in the Draft, Neville dropped to the Reds on Day 2 and it's the second time they've selected him. He was their 18th round pick out of high school in 2022 and opted to go to college at Arkansas. This season, Neville led the nation with 26 homers and was a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist.
Quote: "We’ve liked him for a long time and we were excited to get him to lead off the deck here. Obviously he led the country in home runs. He’s an athletic kid who can play all three outfield positions. I’ve known him for a long time and have been doing the work on him for a long time.” -- Katuska

Round 5, pick 145
Eli Pitts, OF
School: North Atlanta H.S. (Georgia)
Background info: Has shown some power to go with his speed. Has a college commitment to the Univ. of South Florida. Considered to be athletic, he was slowed this season and missed time with a minor hamstring injury.
Quote: "He’s a guy we were able to work out a couple of times, get to meet and interact with. We really like the makeup there and the upside as a hitter and the athlete. We think he can play multiple outfield positions. I think that pick had upside there.” -- Katuska

More on the Reds' 2025 Draft:

Round 6, pick 174
Braden Osbolt, RHP
School: Kennesaw State
Background info: Limited to only four games this season. In 2024, went 6-2 with a 4.48 ERA in 15 games (14 starts).

Round 7, pick 204
Justin Henschel, RHP
School: Florida Gulf Coast University
Background info: Henschel made three starts and impressed this season but injured his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery. Before going down, he showed a fastball around 94 mph and a mid-80's slider that missed bats. According to MLB.com scouting reports, he has a chance to be a back-of-the-rotation starter.
Quote: “Unfortunately, there were a lot of guys in this Draft that were talented players that slotted relatively high, but because of those circumstances ended up going a little bit later. So we really tried to figure out where those guys fit on talent and balance the risk. We thought Justin and Braden really fit -- guys that we want to go get. We’ll continue the rehab process with them. Hopefully, we get them signed and that whole process, but have them continue with us and then get back on the field next year.” -- Katuska

Round 8, pick 234
Kyle McCoy, LHP
School: Maryland
Background info: The 6-foot-6 lefty missed 2024 because of Tommy John surgery but was Maryland's Friday night starter in 2025. He was 6-3 with a 3.32 ERA in 14 starts.
Quote: “Obviously unfortunate the injury happened, but it was a blessing in disguise for me. It gave me an opportunity to work on other aspects of myself outside of just baseball performance.” -- McCoy, to The Diamondback about his recovery from elbow surgery

Round 9, pick 264
Kien Vu, OF
School: Arizona State
Background info: A lefty hitter, Vu batted .354 with a 1.059 OPS and 10 homers in 50 games for ASU this season and that was viewed as a step back from his even better 2024 season. In April, he set a single-game school record with six stolen bases.
Quote: "We like that bat and we like the athlete. We thought that Kien would go off the board faster than he ended up going off. We're pretty excited." -- Katuska

Round 10, pick 294
Ty Doucette, 1B
School
: Rutgers
Background info: A lefty-hitting Canadian, Doucette batted .350 with a .988 OPS and 13 homers in 57 games for Rutgers this season. His father, Darren, was a 25th round pick by the Cardinals in 1992.
Quote: "We like the hit tool and the power. Thought, again, undervalued guy. A number of our scouts had him positioned much higher in the Draft and the way it flowed, that's where we got to him. We were excited that he was still on the board in the 10th round." -- Katuska

Round 11, pick 324
Jake Brink, RHP
School: College of Charleston
Background info: Brink threw a career-high 93 innings this season, posting a 6-6 record with a 3.58 ERA and 82 strikeouts, while leading his school's conference with three complete games.
Quote: "The best is yet to come for Jake. The Reds are getting a high-character, hard-working kid that is going to pitch for a long, long time!" – College of Charleston head coach Chad Holbrook

Round 12, pick 354
Carson Latimer, RHP
School: Sacramento State
Background info: Went 2-3 with a 6.14 ERA in 15 games (seven starts) this season.

Round 13, pick 384
Brady Afthim, RHP
School: Connecticut
Background info: A reliever who is ranked second in UConn history with 92 career appearances, Afthim went 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA and nine saves in 22 games this season, while striking out 53 batters in 36 2/3 innings.

Round 14, pick 414
Bryce Archie, RHP
School: South Florida
Background info: A two-sport athlete at USF who also played quarterback for the football team and started last season's final eight games. In baseball, he went 3-1 with a 3.25 ERA in 15 games (three starts).

Round 15, pick 444
Andrew Shaffner, RHP
School: NC State
Background info: Shaffner went 4-1 with a 3.13 ERA in 18 games, with one start and seven saves this season. He was a two-way player his first two seasons but focused on pitching only in 2025.

Round 16, pick 474
Maison Martinez, RHP
School: Florida State
Background info: After spending his first two college seasons at Virginia Commonwealth, transferred to Florida State for his final year. Martinez posted a 5.55 ERA with two saves in 14 games this season.

Round 17, pick 504
Dylan King, catcher
School: Central Florida
Background info: A lefty hitter who transferred from North Carolina, King batted .326/.442/.652 with nine homers in 43 games for USF this season. A team captain, he also threw out seven attempted base stealers.

Round 18, pick 534
Ethan Moore, SS
School: Oak Park and River Forest H.S. (Illinois)
Background info: A switch-hitter who was viewed as the best high school hitter in Illinois since Alek Thomas went in the 2018 Draft. His scouting report noted that Moore features a compact swing that gets line drives to all fields – but he hits with more authority from the left side of the plate.

Round 19, pick 564
Miles Upchurch, RHP
School: St. Albans High School (D.C.)
Background info: At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Upchurch offers size and arm strength to any team interested in the prep right-hander. He can run his fastball up to 95-96 mph, but typically sits around 91-93 mph, and there have been some questions about the life of his heater. His best secondary offering is a low-80s slider that can flash above-average, though not consistently.

Round 20, pick 594
Leamsi Montanez
School: Leadership Christian Academy (Puerto Rico)
Background info: Ranked by Perfect Game as the top catcher and second-best player overall in Puerto Rico. He's considered an athletic left-handed hitting catcher.
