BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell from Triple-A Worcester. To make room on the active roster, Boston designated right-handed pitcher Jorge Alcala for assignment.
The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 39.
Campbell, 27, has pitched in one game for Boston this season, allowing two runs in 2.0 innings on July 9 against the Colorado Rockies. The right-hander has also made 34 appearances for Triple-A Worcester this season, recording seven saves while posting a 4.17 ERA (21 ER/45.1 IP) with 41 strikeouts. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the Portugal native owns a 5.54 ERA (23 ER/37.1 IP) with 39 strikeouts in 36 career Major League games with the Mariners (2023) and Red Sox (2024-25).
Alcala, 30, recorded one out in the seventh inning of last night’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Acquired from the Minnesota Twins on June 11, the right-hander has posted a 3.31 ERA (6 ER/16.1 IP) in 19 games for the Red Sox. The Dominican Republic native was signed by the Houston Astros as an international free agent on December 3, 2014, and owns a 4.24 ERA (96 ER/204.0 IP) in 185 career games for Minnesota (2019-25) and Boston (2025).
