BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to September 4) with right shoulder tendinitis. To fill his spot, Boston recalled left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy from Triple-A Worcester.
Hicks, 28, has posted an 8.20 ERA (17 ER/18.2 IP) in 21 games for Boston since he was acquired from the San Francisco Giants on June 15. Originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has posted a 4.41 ERA (206 ER/420.1 IP) with 409 strikeouts in 275 career Major League games (37 starts) with the Cardinals (2018-23), Toronto Blue Jays (2023), Giants (2024-25), and Red Sox (2025).
Murphy, 27, has pitched in 14 games for Boston this season, going 2-0 with a 3.05 ERA (7 ER/20.2 IP) and .162 opponent batting average (12-for-74). The left-hander also owns a 3.38 ERA (8 ER/21.1 IP) in 13 games (two starts) for Worcester, including a 0.69 ERA (1 ER/13.0 IP) in his last seven outings (two starts) dating back to August 14. Selected by Boston in the sixth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 4.35 ERA (33 ER/68.1 IP) in 34 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2023, 2025).
