BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed outfielder Roman Anthony on the 10-Day Injured List with a left oblique strain. To fill his spot, Boston recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester.
Anthony, 21, exited last night’s game against the Cleveland Guardians following the bottom of the fourth inning. The left-handed hitter has batted .292 (75-for-257) with 18 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 32 RBI, and 48 runs scored in 71 games for Boston this season, his Major League debut. He was named American League Rookie of the Month for August, after hitting .304 (31-for-102) with four doubles, six home runs, 13 RBI, 21 runs scored, and a .910 OPS in 26 games during the month. Selected by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has also hit .288 (61-for-212) with nine doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, 29 RBI, 45 runs scored, and a .914 OPS in 58 games for Worcester this season.
Sogard, 27, has played in 18 games for Boston this season, batting .242 (15-for-62) with 10 runs scored while making 11 starts at first base, three at second base, and two at third base. The switch-hitter has also played in 91 games for Worcester, batting .276 (94-for-340) with 22 doubles, five home runs, and 64 runs scored. Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .259 (36-for-139) in 49 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2024-25), making 14 starts at second base, 11 at first base, eight at third base, and six at shortstop.
