RED SOX ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Reinstated right-handed pitcher Zack Kelly from the 15-Day Injured List and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester.
  • Reinstated right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi from the 60-Day Injured List and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester.
  • Transferred right-handed pitcher Luis Guerrero to the 60-Day Injured List.

Kelly, 30, made four rehab outings (one start) between Triple-A Worcester (two games) and High-A Greenville (two games, one start), tossing a combined 5.0 scoreless innings. The right-hander has made 17 appearances for Boston this season, posting a 5.56 ERA (14 ER/22.2 IP) with 25 strikeouts, and has also pitched in 15 minor-league games (two starts) between Worcester (13 games, one start) and Greenville (two games, one start). Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Oakland Athletics in 2017, the Virginia native owns a 4.31 ERA (49 ER/102.1 IP) with 103 strikeouts in 87 career games (three starts), all with Boston (2022-25).

Burdi, 32, made his only rehab appearance for Triple-A Worcester yesterday, pitching a scoreless sixth inning in the first game of their doubleheader against Lehigh Valley. The right-hander has tossed 5.1 scoreless innings over four relief appearances for Boston, and has also pitched in 18 games for Worcester, going 4-0 with four saves, a 1.23 ERA (3 ER/22.0 IP), 29 strikeouts, and a 1.00 WHIP. Originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the second round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the Illinois native owns a 5.34 ERA (18 ER/30.1 IP) in 35 career Major League games with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2018-20), Chicago Cubs (2023), New York Yankees (2024), and Red Sox (2025).

Guerrero, 24, was placed on the 15-Day Injured List on June 28 with a right elbow strain. The right-hander has pitched in 13 games for Boston this season, posting a 4.15 ERA (8 ER/17.1 IP). He has also made 15 appearances for Triple-A Worcester, recording a 4.43 ERA (10 ER/20.1 IP). Selected by the Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Dominican Republic native owns a 2.63 ERA (8 ER/27.1 IP) over 22 career Major League outings, all with the Red Sox (2024-25).
