RED SOX AND OUTFIELDER ROMAN ANTHONY AGREE ON EIGHT-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION THROUGH 2033 SEASON

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today signed outfielder Roman Anthony to an eight-year contract extension that spans the 2026-33 seasons, with a club option for 2034.

Anthony, 21, has hit .283 (45-for-159) with an .828 OPS, 27 runs scored, 15 doubles, one triple, two home runs, 19 RBI, and 26 walks in his 46 games since making his Major League debut on June 9. The left-handed hitter has made 19 starts in right field, 13 as the designated hitter, and nine in left field. He has reached base safely in 35 of his last 38 games, since June 18, ranking second in the Majors with a .442 on-base percentage over that span.

Anthony entered 2025 ranked by both Baseball America and MLB.com and baseball’s top overall prospect and began the season with Triple-A Worcester, where he hit .288 (61-for-212) with a .914 OPS in 58 games. Selected by Boston in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has batted .285 (323-for-1,135) in 303 career minor league games.

A graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Anthony was named Gatorade Florida Player of the Year and Florida Mr. Baseball in 2022. He was named Red Sox Minor League Offensive Player of the Year in 2023, as well as a High-A South Atlantic League Post-Season All-Star and a Baseball America Minor League All-Star. In 2024, he again earned Minor League All-Star honors from BA and was also named to the All-MiLB Prospect First-Team and Double-A Eastern League All-Star team.
