KANSAS CITY -- Jake Burger has been the Rangers’ hottest hitter of late, slashing .467/.529/.667 over his last seven games. That makes his recent injured list stint hit so much harder.
President of baseball operations Chris Young said on Monday that the Rangers placed Burger on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain. This is the third IL stint of the season for Burger, who missed June 21-July 2 with a left oblique strain and July 16-Aug. 7 with a left quadriceps injury.
Burger was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning on Aug. 17 in Toronto with discomfort in his wrist, which he originally felt in his first at-bat of the previous game. He returned to Texas for an MRI and rejoined the team in Kansas City on Monday.
“It’s going to need a few days to calm down at this point,” Young said. “We're hopeful to get him back swinging and taped up and back in the lineup, but want to get Jake the best chance we can to heal and not put him in harm's way.”
Across 84 big league games in 2025 Burger is hitting .242/.275/.416 with 12 home runs, 15 doubles and 41 RBIs. He leads the club with 71 starts at first base and hit .429 with a 1.097 OPS in his last nine games since Aug. 8.
He’ll be eligible to return on Aug. 28.
“Jake has been a warrior,” Young said. “He's been one of our hottest hitters. It's terrible timing. I feel for him. He wants to push through it, but it’s just not the best decision for him at this point, given the swelling and inflammation. The game's hard enough when everything's feeling right, much less when you're in pain. So hopefully this will calm down quickly and he'll be back out there.”
