Players and staff for the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros will wear specially designed batting practice shirts to show support for Central Texas flood victims ahead of the clubs’ series opener on Friday at Daikin Park, it was announced today. The shirt will feature the words "Together For Texas" over an outline of the state with logos for both clubs.
The club announced on Monday that the Rangers organization and its partners are committed to providing $1 Million to support short-term and long-term relief and recovery efforts following the tragic flooding in Central Texas.
"When a disaster hits anywhere in our state, the Texas Rangers organization stands ready to respond," said Karin Morris, Executive Director of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. "This particular disaster is so tragic and impacts every corner of the state. We are here to help cover immediate needs today, as well as in the days, months and years to come. We thank our first responders and volunteers for their tireless work. Our prayers and thoughts are with the families impacted."
The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation has started the work of assisting those impacted by the flooding disaster. In addition to making a substantial donation to the Central Texas Flood Recovery Fund, the Rangers have also made contributions to the Kerrville Chamber of Commerce, Southern Oaks Church, Ark of Highland Lakes in Burnet County, Kerrville Independent School District, and Ingram Fire Department. The club has also made a large donation to Grimes Funeral Chapels to assist with funeral expenses.
The Rangers will be in Houston this weekend for a three-game series as the team finishes a season-long 10-day, 10-game road trip ahead of next week’s All-Star break.
