Starting pitcher Trevor Rogers of the Baltimore Orioles has been voted the American League Pitcher of the Month for August, and All-Star starting pitcher Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers has been named the National League Pitcher of the Month for August. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.
Rogers earned his first career honor, becoming the 14th Orioles pitcher to win the award and the first since Corbin Burnes last September. Rogers is Baltimore’s first left-hander to win the award since Erik Bedard in July 2007. Peralta won his second career award after previously winning Milwaukee’s most recent award in August 2023. He is the third Brewer to win the award multiple times, joining Cal Eldred (September 1992 & June 1994) and Hall of Famer CC Sabathia (July & August 2008).

Across six starts, the 27-year-old went 4-1 with a 1.29 ERA (6 ER/42.0 IP) while allowing 30 hits with six walks, 41 strikeouts, a 0.86 WHIP, a .199 opponents’ batting average and 8.79 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.
The Carlsbad, New Mexico native led the Majors in innings pitched; ranked third in ERA and WHIP, pacing the AL in both categories; and tied for fifth in strikeouts. The 2021 All-Star was the only Major League pitcher to throw a complete game during the month, as he was tagged with the loss against Chicago (NL) on August 1st, allowing a run on four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in 8.0 innings, marking his first career complete game.
The 13th overall pick in the 2017 Draft became the first Oriole to log at least 40.0 innings of work in single month since Chris Tillman threw 40.1 innings in August 2013. Rogers became Baltimore’s first pitcher with at least 40 strikeouts and 40.0 innings pitched in a single month since Bedard in July 2007 (52 SO/40.2 IP).
The southpaw dealt 7.0 innings in each of his last four starts, becoming the first Orioles starter to make four consecutive starts of at least 7.0 innings since Tillman in July 2016. He has thrown at least 6.0 innings and allowed two runs-or-fewer in 10 consecutive starts since July 6th, becoming the first Orioles pitcher to accomplish the feat. It is the longest such streak by a pitcher across the Majors since Zack Wheeler had 11 consecutive starts of at least 6.0 innings and two-or-fewer runs to close his 2024 campaign for the Philadelphia Phillies, before he extended the streak to 13 games with his first two starts of this year.
Rogers has allowed two runs-or-fewer in a career-best and franchise-record 12 consecutive starts since June 23rd. His current streak surpassed the previous single-season franchise record of 10 straight starts of less than three runs permitted by Milt Pappas in 1964. He became the first pitcher in franchise history to make at least five starts and allow one-or-zero runs in each of his starts of a single month.
Freddy Peralta, Milwaukee Brewers (@fpd04____)
Across five starts, the 29-year-old went 4-0 with a 0.32 ERA (1 ER/28.0 IP) while allowing 11 hits with 12 walks, 34 strikeouts, a 0.82 WHIP, a .117 opponents’ batting average and 10.93 strikeouts per 9.0 innings.
Among pitchers with at least two starts, the Dominican Republic native led the Majors in ERA and opponents’ batting average; tied for third in wins; and ranked 10th in WHIP.
The two-time All-Star became the fourth Brewers pitcher and second starter to log at least 20.0 innings in a single month while maintaining an ERA below 0.40, joining starter Teddy Higuera (20.1 IP/0.00 ERA) in April 1990; reliever Mark Clear (10.0 IP/0.00 ERA) in August 1986; and reliever Ray Searage (22.1 IP/0.00 ERA) in September 1984.
The eight-year veteran did not allow a run in each of his last four starts, dealing 18.0 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to the fifth inning of his start on August 5th at Atlanta. Peralta is the first pitcher in franchise history to make at least five starts in a month while permitting one-or-zero runs in total, and the first to accomplish the feat across the Majors since Eury Pérez for the Miami Marlins in June 2023.
The right-hander is the first starter in franchise history to post four consecutive scoreless starts of at least 5.0 innings. He is one of three pitchers across Baseball to achieve the feat this season, joining Chicago’s Cade Horton and Tampa Bay’s Drew Rasmussen.
Peralta struck out at least six batters in each of his five starts during the month, marking the seventh time in his career he has struck out at least six in five consecutive starts. It also marks his second-longest streak of the year behind a six-game stretch from June 13th-July 13th. He has registered a Major League-leading 16 wins this season and is seeking to become the first Brewer in franchise history to outright lead Baseball in wins, with Pete Vuckovich (14 W) tying four other pitchers for the lead in 1981.
