Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Thursday’s game against the Athletics at Globe Life Field:
- Catcher Kyle Higashioka placed on 10-day Injured List (mild left intercostal strain), retroactive to April 30.
- Right-handed pitcher Caleb Boushley recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
Higashioka, 35, sustained the injury while running out a 3-run double in the 8th inning Tuesday against the Athletics at Globe Life Field. The right-handed-hitting catcher has made 17 starts (15 at catcher, 2 at designated hitter) for Texas this season, batting .254/.279/.390/.669 (15-59) with one home run, 5 doubles, 8 RBI, 2 walks, and 3 runs scored. He ranks among A.L. backstops (min. 15 GS) in catcher ERA (1st, 2.75), doubles (5th), and extra-base hits (T10th) in 2025, his first year with the Rangers after signing a two-year Major League free agent contract with the club on 12/2/24.
Boushley (pronounced ‘BAHZ-lee’) is making his second stint with Texas in 2025 (also April 8-27) and has posted a 5.87 ERA (5 ER/7.2 IP) with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in 3 appearances for the Rangers in 2025. The 31-year-old right-hander began the season with Round Rock, making 2 starts for the Express (0-1, 2.08 ERA) before his contract was selected by Texas on April 8. Boushley was optioned to Triple-A on Monday and made the start for Round Rock on Wednesday at Sugar Land, throwing 2.0 scoreless innings (3 H, 1 BB, 3 SO, 39 pitches/24 strikes). He was initially signed by Texas to a minor league contract on 11/15/24 following stints in the San Diego (2017-21), Milwaukee (2022-23), and Minnesota (2024) chains.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
