July 23rd, 2025

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Wednesday night’s series finale against the Athletics at Globe Life Field:

  • Right-handed pitcher Jon Gray activated from 60-day Injured List.
  • Right-handed pitcher Luke Jackson designated for assignment.

Gray, 33, will be seeking his 2025 season debut after missing Texas’ first 102 games of 2025 while on the 60-day Injured List with a right forearm fracture. He suffered the injury after being struck by a line-drive comebacker off the bat of Colorado’s Michael Toglia during the 4th inning of a Cactus League contest on March 14 in Surprise. The right-hander has appeared in 3 games/starts on rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock (2) and the ACL Rangers (one), logging 8.2 innings with 3 earned runs allowed (3.12 ERA). His most recent appearance came in a start for Round Rock on Saturday at Las Vegas, when he threw 61 pitches and permitted one earned run while striking out 5 over 3.2 innings.

In 76 games/72 starts since joining the Rangers prior to the 2022 campaign, Gray has gone 21-21 with a 4.16 ERA (179 ER/387.1 IP) and 362 strikeouts. The Shawnee, Okla. native, who reached 10 years of Major League service on Monday, has posted a 74-70 mark and 4.45 ERA over 228 career games/223 starts spanning 10 MLB seasons with Colorado (2015-21) and Texas (2022-24). Gray was originally selected by the Rockies with the third overall pick in the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft from the University of Oklahoma.

Jackson, 33, went 2-5 with 9 saves, a 4.11 ERA (16 ER/35.0 IP), and 24 strikeouts against 19 walks in 39 relief appearances for Texas this season, last appearing in Texas’ 6-2 win over the Athletics on Tuesday at Globe Life Field (1.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 12 pitches). The right-hander owns a career 24-16 record and 4.23 ERA in 377 career games (all in relief) with Texas (2015-16, 2025), Atlanta (2017-21, 2024), and San Francisco (2023-24).

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Tyler Mahle, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
