Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Friday night’s series opener against the Atlanta Braves at Globe Life Field:
- Outfielder Sam Haggerty activated from 10-day Injured List.
- Infielder Cody Freeman optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Haggerty spent the minimum 10 days off the active roster after being placed on the Injured List July 18 (retroactive to July 15) with left ankle inflammation. The 31-year-old outfielder faced live pitching in pregame batting practice sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday at Globe Life Field and was not sent on an injury rehab assignment. He last saw game action on July 13 at Houston, registering two plate appearances off the bench in the Rangers’ 5-1 win.
In 47 games with Texas this season after having his contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock on May 9, the switch-hitter is batting .250/.329/.375/.704 (32-128) with 2 home runs, 3 triples, 4 doubles, 11 RBI, 14 walks, 9 stolen bases, and 25 runs scored. Haggerty has been utilized as a centerfielder (14 games/10 starts), leftfielder (13 games/9 starts), designated hitter (9 games/5 starts), rightfielder (5 games/4 starts), and second baseman (4 games) with the Rangers in 2025. The 7-year MLB veteran has posted a .333 batting average (19-57) and .843 OPS in 62 plate appearances against left-handed pitching this year.
Freeman, 24, went 1-for-7 with one double, one RBI, and 2 runs scored across 4 games/3 starts with Texas in his first career stint on the 26-man roster from July 18-24. The infielder made his Major League debut as a pinch runner last Friday vs. Detroit and collected his first hit and RBI on Monday against the Athletics. Prior to having his contract selected on July 18, he slashed .315/.367/.494/.861 (99-314) with 12 home runs, 20 doubles, and 54 RBI in 79 games with Round Rock this season.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Tyler Mahle, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
