Prior to tonight’s game the Phillies returned left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez from his rehab assignment with triple-A Lehigh Valley and reinstated him from the 15-day injured list. The Phillies placed right-handed pitcher José Ruiz on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 5/1) with a neck spasm.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Suárez, 29, made four rehab starts between single-A Clearwater and Lehigh Valley this year and posted a 1.08 ERA (2 ER, 16.2 IP) with 24 strikeouts to five walks and a 0.90 WHIP. In his 2024 campaign, Suárez earned his first-career All-Star selection while going 12-8, with a 3.46 ERA (58 ER, 150.2 IP) with 145 strikeouts to 41 walks and a 1.20 WHIP. Last season, the 6-foot-1 Venezuela native also set career highs in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.

Suárez was originally signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on April 1, 2012.

Ruiz, 30, has pitched in 12 games for the Phillies this season (all in relief) and has a 4.76 ERA (6 ER, 11.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts to six walks. Originally signed by the San Diego Padres as an amateur free agent, Ruiz was signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent on November 28, 2023.
