Cardinals' Contreras disciplined

August 26th, 2025

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras has received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his actions during the bottom of the seventh inning in Monday night’s game at Busch Stadium against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, Major League Baseball announced today. Michael Hill, MLB’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, made the announcement.

The suspension of Contreras had been scheduled to begin tonight, when the Cardinals continue their series against the Pirates. However, Contreras has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until that process is complete.
