Dick Allen and Billy Wagner will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 27. That will increase the number of Phillies alumni honored in Cooperstown, N.Y., to 43 out of 351 plaques.
As with every ball club, many honorees have played for more than one team, the Phillies included. Cap images on the bronze plaques have varied since the first induction in 1939. Currently, the Hall of Fame works with the Hall of Famers and their families to determine which logo will appear on the plaque cap, with the Hall of Fame holding the final decision.
The plaque gallery is one of the most appealing exhibits for museum visitors. The plaque, which reflects the totality of a career, details an individual’s accomplishments in the game in approximately 90 words while listing each team on which an individual played or managed. An artist rendering of the individual being honored tops the plaques.
Allen and Wagner plaques will be revealed for the first time during the July 27 ceremony.
