Padres announce that they've signed all 19 of their 2025 Draft picks

ST. LOUIS -- The 19 members of San Diego’s 2025 Draft class are officially Padres.

The team announced on Thursday that it has signed its entire 19-player Draft class -- plus 11 non-drafted free agents. Left-hander Kruz Schoolcraft headlined that class at No. 25 overall, and per MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis, he signed for his slot’s value at approximately $3.6 million.

“Obviously it's a great honor,” Schoolcraft said on a Zoom call with media the night he was selected. “It's something that my family and I have been working at for a long time. It's just the start of a new chapter. I am excited to get after it.”

The Deadline to sign Draft picks is Monday. The Padres did not have a second-round selection -- their penalty for signing qualified free agent Nick Pivetta during the offseason. As a result, their total bonus pool was the third lowest of any team in the Majors.

They maneuvered around those limitations, skewing toward college players on Day 2 of the Draft, with 16 of their 19 overall picks coming from the college ranks. Though they drafted a pair of intriguing high-school catchers as well -- Ty Harvey (Inspiration Academy in Florida) in the fifth round and Truitt Madonna (Ballard HS, Washington) in the 11th.

Their specific bonuses are unclear. High school catchers are notoriously difficult to project, but the Padres were clearly wowed by the upside of the duo. They will likely develop together, and vice president of amateur and international scouting Chris Kemp noted that they might move around the diamond -- first, third, outfield -- to ease the burden behind the plate, while still getting regular at-bats.

“They just complement each other very well,” Kemp said. “They’re ultra-physical athletic catchers that can hit. They’ve got real bat-to-ball ability. They’ve got real in-game power. To get two guys like that is very exciting.”

Kemp was just as bullish on the college players selected, including center fielder Ryan Wideman out of Western Kentucky in the third round and right-hander Michael Salina out of St. Bonaventure in the fourth. The full list of picks, with details on each, can be found here.

The Padres also signed 11 non-drafted free agents, all from the college ranks: C Jake Bold (Princeton), RHP Tyler Dietz (Florida Institute of Technology), RHP Nick Falter (Denison), SS Bradley Frye (Mercer), RHP Brandon Langley (Western Carolina), CF Qrey Lott (Northwest Florida State), RHP Cameron Nohos (Illinois-Chicago), LHP Cal Riehl (Wingate), RHP Charlie Walker (Northeastern), CF Conner Westenburg (McNeese St.), SS Dawson Willis (Oklahoma).
