NEW YORK -- The Guardians saw a five-run lead evaporate in the eighth inning, but they regrouped and defeated the Mets, 7-6, in 10 innings at Citi Field on Monday night.
With the score tied at 5, the Guardians rallied against Mets right-hander Ryan Helsley. With runners on first and second and no outs, David Fry hit a ground ball to third baseman Brett Baty, who threw the ball wide of shortstop Francisco Lindor at second base for an error. That allowed Daniel Schneemann to score the go-ahead run.
Two batters later, Gabriel Arias added to the lead with a sacrifice fly.
Reliever Nic Enright allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the 10th, but he ended up picking up his first career save in his 19th big league game.
