The second month of the 2025 MLB season produced big performances from some of the game's most recognizable superstars.
AL Player of the Month: Aaron Judge, Yankees
Like most months, May belongs to Judge: He’s now won AL Player of the Month honors in May in four consecutive seasons. For the month, Judge led all qualified hitters with a 1.251 OPS, slashing .364/.453/.798 and launching 11 home runs. In just 26 games, he accumulated 2.2 wins above replacement, per FanGraphs, building off a stellar April in which he was also named his league's top player.
NL Player of the Month: Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers
After trading dramatic home runs over the weekend in a World Series rematch at Dodger Stadium, it’s only fitting that the defending MVPs continue to mirror each other with their hardware. Ohtani smacked an MLB-best 15 home runs in May, contributing to a gaudy .309/.398/.782 slash line.
AL Pitcher of the Month: Kris Bubic, Royals
Bubic’s remarkable star turn continues, as the southpaw allowed a grand total of two runs all month, pitching to a 0.56 ERA -- the best mark in the AL, among qualified starters. Injuries thrust Bubic into an outsized role, but the 27-year-old didn’t disappoint. Even more impressive, Bubic’s success comes in his first season as a full-time starter since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April ‘23.
NL Pitcher of the Month: Robbie Ray, Giants
Like Bubic, Ray is shining in his first full season back after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May ‘23 -- just one week after Bubic. San Francisco’s left-hander resembled his former Cy Young Award self in May, pitching to a 1.38 ERA with 45 strikeouts, the most of any NL pitcher. Ray allowed one run or fewer in five of his six starts, completing six innings in all six outings.
AL Rookie of the Month: Jacob Wilson, Athletics
Wilson hardly looked like a rookie in May. His .368 batting average was the fourth-highest of any qualified hitter, and he tallied 39 hits, second to only Freddie Freeman. He led the Athletics in most offensive categories, including RBI (16) and OPS (.975).
NL Rookie of the Month: Drake Baldwin, Braves
Baldwin sure looks like he belongs in the Majors, as the 24-year-old backstop tore the cover off the ball in May: He hit .389 with a 1.004 OPS while recording six multihit games.
AL Reliever of the Month: Jhoan Duran, Twins
Duran helped key Minnesota’s resurgence with a lights-out month, posting a 0.60 ERA in 15 innings with a 12.00 K/9 ratio. He also locked down seven saves, tied for the most in the AL in May.
NL Reliever of the Month: Edwin Díaz, Mets
Sound the trumpets: Díaz looked like his vintage self in May, going unscored upon in 11 appearances. The opposition finished the month on an 0-for-30 skid against Díaz, who allowed just three hits across 11 1/3 innings.
