Major League Baseball and Jomboy Media announced a strategic partnership on Tuesday that will bring the two sides together to incorporate Jomboy Media’s experience across various MLB avenues.
MLB will utilize Jomboy Media’s expertise on MLB’s digital channels, create activations around key MLB events like the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby and help grow Jomboy Media’s stable of intellectual property including Talkin’ Baseball, Talkin’ Yanks, and The Warehouse Games.
“I continue to be amazed by what our community enables us to do through their endless support," said Jimmy “Jomboy” O’Brien, founder of Jomboy Media. "When we started talking about baseball on the internet, it was just a fun hobby. Our community is the reason we’ve been able to turn this from 'just a hobby,' into something bigger than we ever could’ve imagined.
"Partnering with MLB marks a huge moment for Jomboy Media, and through this partnership, we’ll be able to give back to our community with storytelling that’s deeper than ever before.”
Founded by O’Brien and Jake Storiale in 2017, Jomboy Media quickly grew into one of the most popular baseball media outlets on the internet, engaging both casual and diehard fans from the perspective of a passionate fan. At the time of the partnership announcement, Jomboy Media had 2.1 million subscribers on YouTube, 956,000 followers on Instagram and 413,400 followers on X.
“We have long admired the passionate fandom of Jimmy O’Brien and his unique ability to connect with baseball fans,” said Noah Garden, MLB Deputy Commissioner, Business and Media. “This partnership will ensure that Jomboy Media will have the resources and access to MLB intellectual property necessary to help it continue to grow. We are looking forward to bringing baseball fans more entertaining content to help further expand baseball’s online presence and deepen the connection between our sport and its fans.”
O’Brien helped make a name for himself with his various lip-reading videos on YouTube, but the company’s popularity extended far beyond Jomboy’s various social media platforms. The Talkin’ Baseball podcast has consistently ranked as one of the most popular baseball podcasts for years, while the Talkin’ Yanks podcast has been one of the go-to’s for Yankee fans.
“This partnership with MLB is a major milestone for Jomboy Media,” said Courtney Hirsch, Jomboy Media CEO. “We’ve always believed that deep storytelling and our unique approach to content and community can grow the game -- and now we’re excited to do that alongside the league itself. This collaboration gives us the opportunity to scale what we do best and reach more fans than ever.”
