NEW YORK -- The Mets have seen all they needed from Francisco Alvarez in Triple-A.
The team plans to recall Alvarez, their erstwhile starting catcher, prior to Monday's game against the Angels, a source confirmed. Alvarez hit 11 home runs in 19 games after the Mets sent him to Triple-A Syracuse to work on his overall game. That run included seven homers over his final six games.
Before his demotion, Alvarez was slashing just .236/.319/.333 with the Mets. The team sent him down to work on both his offense and defense.
Back in New York, Alvarez figures to reclaim significant playing time from Luis Torrens. His presence will also likely force backup Hayden Senger back to the Minors.
