Leaving his home country for an opportunity with the Mets, Joshua Cornielly finally pitched in front of his parents.
Of course, it wasn't the first time he's toed the rubber with them in person, but it was Cornielly's first-ever professional appearance with his parents, Miguel and Magdalena Cornielly, in the stands. Miguel and Magdalena made the trip from Venezuela to see their son Thursday at Double-A Binghamton.
Cornielly, a 24-year-old reliever, spun two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to hold off the Portland Sea Dogs en route to a 2-1 victory at Mirabito Stadium. It marked the righty's sixth no-hit appearance of the season and fourth in the month of June.
"Very emotional," Cornielly said postgame to Rumble Ponies broadcaster Matt Levine. "I'm so proud that they're here to see me pitch, that they can see me pitch. I hope they enjoy this game. This is for you, guys."

Cornielly entered work in the top of the seventh inning, when he jumped back into the count after a first-pitch ball with three straight strikes to Red Sox No. 21 prospect Allan Castro. He induced a pop out before logging his second punchout in the same sequence.
The Caracas, Venezuela, native returned for the eighth inning and ran into an unlucky draw. Caden Rose reached second base on a fielding error, but Cornielly battled an eight-pitch at-bat to record his third and final strikeout right after.
Then Mikey Romero, Boston's No. 12 prospect, was summoned to pinch-hit, but he grounded out on the third pitch he saw. Cornielly, who now had a runner at third, generated another pop out to end his evening, preserve the lead and lower his ERA to below 4.00 on the season.

Coming off a May where he sported a 1.69 ERA in four short appearances, Cornielly has pitched as nearly as many innings in June than the previous two months of the season. His previous outing, where he surrendered three runs in 1 1/3 innings, has remained the one stain on his ledger this month, as his Thursday appearance put him back on track.
Signed by New York in June 2018, Cornielly reached Double-A for the first time in August of last year. He received the same assignment for his sixth season in the system, where he's posted a career 4.11 ERA with 285 strikeouts in 247 1/3 innings.
