Muncy returns to Dodgers; Edman to injured list with ankle sprain

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated infielder Max Muncy from the injured list and placed infielder Tommy Edman on the injured list.

Muncy, 34, has been on the injured list since July 3. He made five rehab appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City, recording five hits in 15 at-bats, including a homer. He has played in 81 games this season, hitting .250 with 13 homers and 55 RBI. He clubbed his 200th career homer on May 31 against the Yankees and he is tied with Matt Kemp for seventh all-time in franchise history with 203 career homers. He has been with the Dodgers eight seasons, slashing .232/.358/.484 with 575 career RBI. Prior to joining the Dodgers, he played two seasons with the Athletics, clubbing five homers and driving in 17 in 96 games. He was drafted by the Athletics in the fifth round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Baylor University.

Edman, 29, heads to the injured list for the second time this season with a sprained ankle. He is batting .228 with 12 homers and 44 RBI in 86 games this season. The 2024 NLCS MVP is in his second season with Los Angeles and has clubbed 18 homers in 123 games. In parts of seven seasons with the Cardinals (2019-2023) and the Dodgers (2024-) he has slashed .259/.313/.407 with 71 homers and 286 RBI. The former Stanford Cardinal was selected in the sixth round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft by St. Louis.
