WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today the Mariners have acquired infielder Eugenio Suárez from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for infielder Tyler Locklear, right-handed pitcher Juan Burgos and minor league right-handed pitcher Hunter Cranton.
“We’re thrilled to bring Geno back to Seattle,” President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto said. “He’s the type of person, player, and energizer to push us to the level we want to reach.”
“The addition of Geno is incredibly impactful on the field and in our clubhouse.” Hollander said. “We are beyond thrilled to welcome Geno and his family back to the Mariners!”
Suárez (AY-you-hay-nee-oh SWA-rez), 34, returns to the Mariners after spending the 2022-23 seasons with Seattle. In those two seasons, the third baseman combined for 53 home runs, 183 RBI and a .751 OPS. In 2022, Suárez recorded 31 homers and 87 RBI with a 129 OPS+ in his first season with Seattle, helping the franchise to a Postseason berth.
In 106 games with Arizona this season, “Geno” has 36 home runs and 87 RBI. His 87 runs batted in this season are tied for the Major League lead with Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh. Suárez is the Mariners third addition at this year’s MLB trade deadline, joining fellow slugger Josh Naylor from Arizona and left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson from Pittsburgh.
Suárez has appeared in 12 Major League seasons with Detroit (2014), Cincinnati (2015-21), Seattle (2022-23) and Arizona (2024-25), slugging 312 home runs with 918 RBI. The 34-year-old infielder has registered 1,396 hits, 253 doubles, 15 triples and 615 walks with a .795 OPS.

Suárez’s 312 home runs are 3rd-most among Venezuelan-born players in Major League history, trailing only Miguel Cabrera (511 home runs) and Andrés Galarraga (399 home runs).
