Lights, camera, 'Abbott': Schwarber films TV cameo after 4-HR game

August 29th, 2025

PHILADELPHIA -- It wouldn't be unheard of for a professional athlete to do a few extra TV hits in the wake of a record-setting performance -- and that was certainly the case for Phillies star following his four-homer, nine-RBI game on Thursday night.

But this was a bit different than usual.

Following the initial postgame scramble -- one that included setting aside his helmet to send off to Cooperstown -- Schwarber returned to the field in his full powder blue uniform. The same one he had just worn on his way to becoming the 21st player in Major League history to hit four homers in a game.

There were plenty of cameras following his every move and a group of fans sitting in Section 114 up the first-base line.

The cameras, though, had nothing to do with the game broadcast. Instead, they were filming an upcoming episode of "Abbott Elementary," ABC's award-winning sitcom centered around a fictional school based in West Philadelphia.

Oh, and the fans? They were extras brought in for this particular project -- though that didn't stop them from sprinkling in some "M-V-P" chants for Schwarber.

The fact that the shoot came on the same night that Schwarber etched his name into the MLB record books and also set the franchise record for RBIs in a single game just happened to be a coincidence.

The date had been settled on well in advance. Regardless, Schwarber's guest spot on the TV series will now forever be part of his historic night.

Quinta Brunson, a West Philadelphia native who is both the star and creator of "Abbott Elementary," had teased a few weeks ago that the show planned to film at an upcoming "live event" in Philadelphia. Though the show is mostly filmed in Los Angeles, it isn't the first time the crew has been on-site in Philadelphia.

Past seasons have featured appearances by Flyers mascot Gritty, as well as Eagles players Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata and Brandon Graham. The show has filmed at Philadelphia landmarks such as The Franklin Institute and the Please Touch Museum.

Schwarber and Citizens Bank Park can now be added to the list.

The Philies-centric episode is expected to air at some point during season five of the series, which premieres on Oct. 1.
