NEW YORK – Yankees right-hander Jake Cousins is slated to have season-ending Tommy John surgery on Wednesday, manager Aaron Boone said Monday night after New York's 1-0, 11-inning loss to the Angels.
Cousins was a valuable reliever for the Yankees in 2024, appearing in 37 games and posting a 2.37 ERA over 38 innings. He appeared in six games in the postseason and had a 9.00 ERA in five innings.
The 30-year-old Cousins has a 2.78 ERA in 88 relief appearances over four Major League seasons.
The Yankees placed Cousins on the 60-day injured list on March 27 with a right elbow flexor strain. Cousins appeared in two rehab games with High-A Hudson Valley before being shut down with what Boone described as a UCL injury.
