Jake Burger’s up-and-down 2025 season has taken another turn.
The Rangers' first baseman was placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday (retroactive to Sunday) with a left quadriceps strain, dealing Texas’ offense a blow.
Burger landed on the IL for the second time this season after going down with a left oblique strain June 21. He missed just 10 games during his absence, and he could miss only six -- counting Sunday’s series finale in Houston, which Burger missed -- this time around thanks to the All-Star break and the backdated nature of his IL stint.
Still, it’s another disappointing development for Burger in his first year with the Rangers after an offseason trade from the Marlins. The slugger was sent down to Triple-A Round Rock on May 2 after batting just .190 with a .561 OPS through his first 30 games. He was called back up to the Majors the minimum 10 days later and performed better, but he still owns a .228 average and .660 OPS this season -- both career lows.
The Rangers, whose .676 team OPS ranks 25th in the Major Leagues, have yet to announce a corresponding roster move for Burger. Infielders Blaine Crim and Josh Jung, both at Triple-A, are on the 40-man roster. First baseman Rowdy Tellez signed a Minor League deal on July 5.
