MINNEAPOLIS -- Rookie shortstop , who has been on the IL since July 29 (retroactive to July 26) with a fractured left forearm, continues to progress through his rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas. A's manager Mark Kotsay said Wilson’s return to the lineup could be imminent.

Wilson homered at Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday night, his third game with Las Vegas. On Wednesday night, he went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, but he had a hand in double plays in seven innings at shortstop. Wilson is hitting .214 (3-for-14) with a double and a homer during his stint with the Aviators.

Kotsay said Wilson was scheduled to start at shortstop again on Wednesday night, and if all goes well, he could meet the team in Seattle this weekend as the Athletics kick off a three-game series with the Mariners on Friday.

“He's been out a little while, and to get his legs underneath him can take a couple of days, but I think things are going as well as they can,” Kotsay said.

Wilson, who is slashing .312/.354/.439 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs this year, represented the Athletics at the All-Star Game last month in Atlanta. Kotsay noted that he’s not worried that Wilson would rush himself back before he’s fully healthy.

“Obviously, we want to make sure the communication is always good with younger players,” Kotsay said. “You want to get back and help the club, and you can make the mistake of coming back too quick. But I think Jacob knows his body pretty well and understands the timeline and taking the proper amount of time to come back. He’s on the right track.”
