Softball superstars take the lead at HRDX: Oklahoma City

May 16th, 2025

When Home Run Derby X comes to Oklahoma City on Aug. 23, it will mark an exciting first for the event, which is now in its fourth year. The three-on-three derby, which traditionally pairs former MLB legends with the best women's baseball and softball players on the same team will now offer a twist: This time, there will be an all-women's team featuring a trio of world-beating, NCAA champion Sooners.

Will stars Jocelyn Alo, Tiare Jennings and Kinzie Hansen be able to defeat teams featuring former big leaguers like Adrián González or Nick Swisher? Can softball stars Ella Parker or Amanda Lorenz help their team defeat the Sooners at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark?

There's more than pride on the line, too: The winner of the OKC event will gain automatic entry to the final in Salt Lake City, where a prize of $200,000 awaits the victor.

For more information on how the game is played, watch the video below. Then scroll down for the Oklahoma City rosters.

Sooners

Jocelyn Alo

The home run queen herself is back! The Oklahoma Sooners superstar won two Women's College World Series titles with the Sooners and finished as the all-time NCAA leader -- among both men and women -- in home runs with 122, total bases (761) and slugging percentage (.987). She helped the Red Sox win HRDX 2022, earned Sports Illustrated's Female Athlete of the Year Award that same year and was selected first overall by the Smash It Vipers in the Women's Professional Fastpitch draft.

Alo has hit the longest dinger in HRDX history and showed off her flair for the dramatic when she tagged in for then-teammate Manny Ramirez in Albuquerque last year before hitting the game-winning walk-off homer.

Tiare Jennings

All Jennings does is win: The former Sooners superstar won four Women's College World Series championships in her time at the school, collecting First Team All-American and Women's College World Series All-Tournament Team honors in each of her seasons. Jennings smashed 98 home runs during her four seasons in Norman before joining the independent Oklahoma City Spark. Now a member of Volts, competing in the upcoming Athletes Unlimited softball league, Jennings will look to knock out a few dozen more home runs in her old college stomping grounds.

Kinzie Hansen

Another Oklahoma Sooners legend, Hansen joined Jennings in winning four consecutive Women's College World Series titles from 2021-24. Named to the All-Tournament team three times, she'll bring her Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Award to the field for HRDX to steal points from the opposition. Hansen hit 49 home runs in her college career and now lines up behind the dish for the Oklahoma City Spark.

Yankees

Nick Swisher

The HRDX O.G. is back! A natural-born entertainer, Swisher has been taking part in HRDX tournaments since the very start and he hand-picked his team for the Oklahoma City event. The most outgoing person in sports, Swisher played for five big league teams but is perhaps best known for his time in Yankees pinstripes. Swisher won the 2009 World Series, was elected to the 2010 All-Star Game and hit 245 long balls in his career. He also appeared in the popular shows "How I Met Your Mother" and "Sweet Magnolias."

Kasidi Pickering

A lefty masher from Humble, Texas, Pickering is in her sophomore season for the local Oklahoma Sooners. In her freshman season in 2024, she helped the Sooners win a Women's College World Series title, hitting .389 with 12 home runs along the way and being named to the All-Tournament team. A preseason First Team All-SEC pick, she's already upped her numbers in her sophomore campaign, hitting .404 with 14 home runs at the time of writing.

Ella Parker

Another of the great Oklahoma sluggers who originally came out of the powerful OC Batbusters pipeline, Parker teamed up with Pickering last year to win a Women's College World Series in her freshman campaign at Norman, also making the all-tournament team following a season that saw her hit .415 with 13 home runs. The sophomore -- who is the niece of Dodgers manager Dave Roberts -- has followed up with another strong campaign this year.

Dodgers

The five-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner smashed 317 big league home runs and now returns for his second Home Run Derby X event. González last participated at the HRDX: Mexico City event in 2022, helping lead the Dodgers to the finals where they lost to Oklahoma Sooners softball star Jocelyn Alo's Red Sox.

"It was such a great experience," González said at the time. "Love the experience. We had an incredible day, won the first one and came up short in the second one. But that doesn't take away anything. This is a great event, I felt the fans energy out there. And it was a lot of fun."

González's teammates in Oklahoma City will be announced at a later date.

Rangers

Reese Atwood

The junior catcher and designated player for the Longhorns should have no problem smashing dingers: Last season, Atwood hit .423 with 23 home runs -- the sixth-most in D1 softball -- en route to being named a Top 10 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year finalist. This year, she began the year as Softball America's No. 3 player in the nation and she's backed that up, essentially repeating last season's remarkable offensive numbers while becoming the first Longhorns player to reach 200 RBIs in a career.

Amanda Lorenz

The 2024 Athletes Unlimited softball champion, Lorenz finished the season tied for the batting title with a .373 average while adding three home runs. Before that, Lorenz was a star softball player at the University of Florida, winning the NFCA National Freshman of the Year Award in 2016, taking home the SEC Player of the Year honor in 2018 and she was a four-time First team All-American. Last year, she took home the MVP Award at HRDX: Durham, scoring 28 points in the final.

"I just love softball so much. I love hitting so much," Lorenz said after the victory. "You can see that passion in me, but truly, I'm just so thankful and having the best time. Like, what a life I'm living."

Atwood and Lorenz's MLB teammate will be announced soon.
