Dick Allen Hall of Fame recognition

August 4, 2025

This past Saturday, the Phillies honored Phillies legend Dick Allen, one of the best sluggers of his generation and the club’s first Black superstar. To celebrate his recent posthumous induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Phillies hosted an official dedication to put the finishing Hall of Fame touches on Allen’s mural on Broad St. The mural serves as a powerful tribute to Allen’s enduring impact, both as an athlete and a cultural icon. Speakers at this special program included Phillies alum and broadcaster Ruben Amaro Jr., Mural Arts Philadelphia executive director Jane Golden, Senator Vincent Hughes, Councilmember Mark Squilla, former Mayor Jim Kenney, Senator Sharif Street, former Phillies pitcher Dickie Noles, Allen’s widow Willa, his son Richard, artist Ernel Martinez and Phillies Managing Partner and CEO John Middleton.

Following the dedication, the club continued the celebration with a pregame recognition at Citizens Bank Park. Willa and Richard took the field with Allen’s Baseball Hall of Fame plaque on display, while a video celebrating his career was played on PhanaVision.
