Beloved math teacher of 58 years receives Phillies All-Star Teacher surprise
On Friday, May 2, Sister Catherine, a beloved honors math teacher and cafeteria ruler of 58 years, received the surprise of her life as the Phillies and Constellation Energy showed up at St. Charles Borromeo School in Bensalem, Pa. to celebrate her for being one of their All-Star Teachers.
With rally towels in hand, the entire student body took part, giving Sister Catherine the red-carpet treatment. The All-Star teacher was then presented with a Phillies jersey by the Phillies Ballgirls and Club Ambassador Scott Palmer, all before receiving a big congratulatory hug by the Phillies Phanatic, who joined her for a dance-off and victory lap with her fellow teachers.
In addition, Sister Catherine’s good friend and Principal Molly Quinn read the essay that she wrote to the Phillies, which was selected from over hundreds of All-Star Teacher nominations. Also paying tribute were several of Sister Catherine's honors math students, who wrote a few words on behalf of their favorite teacher.
Other highlights included a performance of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" by Sister Catherine's bell choir, a ceremonial first pitch with 1980 World Series champion Dickie Noles, and a proclamation personally delivered by House of Representative constituent advocate Kevin Bongarzone and Bensalem Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo.
Another big surprise was the presentation of her "All-Star Stats" from Constellation Energy Business Development Manager Joe Callaghan, highlighting her 58 years in the field... 15,138 days at bat ... thousands of students coached and mentored ... 8 popes served ... and 1 grand slam career!
The special event was held in advance of that evening’s Teacher Appreciation Night powered by Constellation Energy at Citizens Bank Park, where Sister Catherine joined nine local All-Star Teachers to be honored before the 6:45 p.m. game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Congrats to Sister Catherine and all the Phillies All-Star Teachers!
