BALTIMORE -- Marlins starting pitcher Edward Cabrera left Friday night’s 5-2 loss to the Orioles after four innings with posterior right elbow discomfort.
Manager Clayton McCullough confirmed Cabrera went in for an MRI on Saturday to check on the source of the elbow discomfort he felt in the fourth inning. There was no update on the MRI results during pregame.
"We are doing our due diligence with what he reported last night in the game,” McCullough said. “We want to get a look in there to see what's going on before we can decide a plan of care and then what the coming days will look like."
"Towards the last inning. I felt a discomfort in my elbow,” Cabrera said via team interpreter Luis Dorante Jr. “We had a conversation. My coach and manager, we spoke about that. They decided to take me out of the game."
The right-hander says the All-Star break comes at the right time for him to rest and prepare for the second half.
"Absolutely, this break is going to help me a lot,” Cabrera said. “I can relax [and] come back strong."
Cabrera (3-4, 3.61 ERA) threw 76 pitches (53 strikes), but the Orioles collected three hits in the first inning and four hits in the third inning. He allowed four runs on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
