Former Cy Young winner Keuchel inks Minors deal with Royals

July 9th, 2025

The Royals have signed former AL Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel to a Minor League deal, the team announced Wednesday morning.

Keuchel, 37, held a workout for the team last week and reached 92 mph on his fastball, according to a report from ESPN's Jeff Passan. The lefty will first head to the team's training facility in Arizona before making his way to Triple-A Omaha.

Keuchel, a two-time AL All-Star and 2017 World Series champ with the Astros, last pitched in the Majors in 2024, when he appeared in four games for the Brewers and had a 5.40 ERA in 16 2/3 innings.

The Royals will be Keuchel's sixth team in the past four seasons. Since his early years with the Astros -- which also included his 2015 Cy Young campaign when he went 20-8 with a 2.48 ERA -- Keuchel has had stints with the Braves ('19), White Sox (2020-22), Diamondbacks ('22), Rangers ('22), Twins ('23) and Brewers ('24).

For his career, Keuchel is 103-92 with a 4.04 ERA.
