Sale makes rehab start, nearing return

ATLANTA -- made his final preparations to join Atlanta’s rotation for the first time in more than two months.

Sale allowed one run and recorded five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings for Triple-A Gwinnett in Memphis on Saturday night, as the Braves fell to the Mets 9-2 at Truist Park. This was the third rehab start for the 2024 National League Cy Young Award winner, who has been on the injured list since fracturing a left rib on June 18.

Sale limited the Redbirds to a run after allowing consecutive hits to begin his outing. But he surrendered just two more hits and held the Redbirds scoreless over the remainder of his 77-pitch outing.

The Braves will evaluate Sale over the next couple of days. If he recovers well, he could rejoin the rotation during next weekend’s four-game series in Philadelphia.

“That’s the hope,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "We’ll see how he feels tomorrow. He’s been throwing a lot and feels good. So, that shouldn’t be a problem.”
