July 26th, 2025

The Phillies have acquired outfielder from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room for Hicklen on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher was designated for assignment.

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Hicklen, 29, has slashed .256/.356/.454 (.820 OPS) with 120 home runs, 420 RBI and 500 runs scored in 755 games over his Minor League career. This season he has hit .227 (49-216) with eight doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 31 RBI over 61 games for Triple-A Toledo. In his lone Major League appearance this year, he started in center field for the Tigers on May 8 at the Colorado Rockies and collected two hits in three at-bats with two runs scored, one walk and one stolen base.

For his Major League career, Hicklen has appeared in 10 games between the Kansas City Royals (2022), Milwaukee Brewers (2024) and Tigers (2025).

A native of Huntsville, Ala., Hicklen is now in his second stint in the Phillies organization after being acquired in a trade with Kansas City in August 2023. He was originally selected by the Royals in the seventh round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Cusick, 25, was claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on June 8 and optioned to the Florida Complex League. He was transferred to Lehigh Valley in July and made six relief appearances. Cusick was originally a first-round selection (24th overall) of the Atlanta Braves in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Wake Forest University.
