PITTSBURGH -- A brief flare-up between Pirates outfielder Tommy Pham and Blue Jays catcher Tyler Heineman led to players from both clubs confronting each other at home plate Monday at PNC Park, but the incident was resolved before things escalated too far in the Pirates' 5-2 win.
Shortly after the Pirates took a 3-2 lead in the seventh after a wild pitch scored Henry Davis, Pham drew a walk on four pitches and appeared to deliberately drop the bat in front of Heineman. The two exchanged words, which led to both benches and bullpens coming out to the diamond.
George Springer and Ty France of the Blue Jays intervened and walked Pham down the line to first base, where the beef was seemingly squashed. Pham later stole second as half of a double steal, but did not score.
