Left-hander Austin Gomber made his first rehab start for Double-A Hartford on Wednesday against the Portland Sea Dogs.
The 31-year-old, who was placed on the 60-day IL by Colorado on March 27 (retroactive to March 24) with left shoulder soreness, threw four innings for the Yard Goats. He gave up just two hits, struck out three and allowed an earned run in the second inning.
The Yard Goats planned to limit Gomber to four innings, according to Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer. Hartford won the game 4-2.
Gomber has spent the past four seasons with the Rockies. He was acquired by St. Louis in 2021 as part of the Nolan Arenado deal. He went 5-12 last season with a 4.75 ERA through 30 starts (165 innings pitched).
He began 2025 with shoulder soreness and made a rehab start with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes on March 28. He pitched four innings, striking out five and giving up two runs. The soreness persisted following his outing, though, and he was scratched from his second scheduled start, eventually hitting the IL.
His expected return remains to be determined, but his start Wednesday is a positive sign for his reemergence in the Rockies’ rotation.
