“Friday Night Baseball” on Apple TV+ is back this week and features two games with teams fighting for playoffs spots, including a showdown in the Bronx that could be an October preview.
Reds at Pirates, 6:40 p.m. ET (WATCH HERE)
The Reds are still in the thick of the NL Wild Card hunt, and they'll try to rebound after a 7-0 loss to Paul Skenes and the Pirates in the series opener on Thursday. On the mound for Cincinnati will be rookie sensation Chase Burns (0-3; 6.04 ERA), who's still looking for his first MLB win in what will be his eighth start. But the hard-throwing righty has shown flashy of greatness a few times already, having notched 10-strikeout games in three of his past four outings. Leading the offense for the Reds is the electric Elly De La Cruz, who's having his best season to date, with 19 homers and an .829 OPS. Trying to stop him will be Pittsburgh righty Mitch Keller (5-10; 3.89 ERA), who's held opponents to three earned runs or fewer in nine of his past 10 starts.
Astros at Yankees, 7:05 p.m. ET (WATCH HERE)
Both the Astros and Yankees are just 4-6 in their past 10 games, but things have felt much more dire for New York, which ended a five-game losing streak on Wednesday but has fallen 6 1/2 off the AL East lead and is trying to maintain its grip on a Wild Card spot. The host Yankees will look to righty Cam Schlittler (1-2; 4.58 ERA) to keep the Astros off the board. Schlittler has made just four MLB starts, but he's yet to allow more than three earned runs. Meanwhile, the Yankees will have to deal with Houston ace Hunter Brown (9-5; 2.47 ERA), who's coming off back-to-back outings in which he allowed just one run. The Yankees have struggled this season with an inconsistent offense, but they still have the mighty Aaron Judge (MLB-leading 1.148 OPS), who's capable of generating crooked numbers in a hurry.
