Yanks' Rosario goes on IL with shoulder injury, hopes to miss minimum

August 10th, 2025

NEW YORK – The Yankees were bitten by the injury bug on Sunday, placing infielder/outfielder on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Saturday) with a sternoclavicular joint sprain in his left shoulder. New York recalled catcher from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Rosario hurt his shoulder in the 10th inning of New York’s 5-3 loss to the Astros on Friday night. With a runner on first base and one out, Yainer Diaz hit a ball to deep right field. It looked as if Rosario was going to make the catch, but he hit the right-field wall and fell before center fielder Trent Grisham retrieved the ball and threw out Christian Walker at second base for the force play.

Rosario was on the ground for several minutes, but he left the field under his own power.

Rosario said he felt better on Sunday. If that continues, he hopes to be taken off the IL once the 10 days are up.

“I remember everything about the play. I started running real fast to catch that ball. I didn’t calculate the distance correctly, and then I hit the wall hard,” Rosario said through interpreter Marlon Abreu.

Rosario was acquired in a July 26 trade with the Nationals. The 29-year-old is 3-for-7 with an RBI in four games with the Yankees after slashing .270/.310/.426 in 47 games with Washington.

This will be Escarra’s second stint with the Yankees. He slashed .205/.299/.337 in 39 games with New York, then was 10-for-26 (.385) with five RBIs in eight games with the RailRiders. Escarra, 30, will be the No. 3 catcher behind Austin Wells and Ben Rice.
