Bregman can't fool the cameras even after a fresh shave

When a team needs a change in mojo, players will try almost anything to turn the tide. A new way to the park. A new seat in the dugout. A new pair of socks. A ... fresh shave? was apparently willing to take a shot with that last one.

With the Red Sox having lost six of their past nine games entering Friday and down big against the Yankees in New York, Bregman apparently retreated into the clubhouse and lopped off his mustache. Cameras showed him early in the game with a solid 'stache, then showed him in the fifth inning clean shaven. Anything to switch the vibe.

Bregman has been sidelined with a quad injury since late May and unable to help the team on the field. So, given the ever-superstitious nature of baseball players, his quick-shave contribution had the potential to be the mojo equivalent of a pinch-hit grand slam. You never know until you try it, right?

Well, unfortunately for Bregman and the Sox, the facial pruning had no such magic and the team went on to lose to the Yankees, 9-6.

But you can't blame Bregman. He just wants Boston's slump to hairy up and end.
