CHICAGO – Prior to Tuesday’s game vs. Seattle, the Chicago White Sox agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.35 million contract with right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser. To make room for Houser on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-hander Yoendrys Gómez for assignment.
Houser, 32, is scheduled to make his 2025 season debut as the Sox starting pitcher in tonight’s game. He went 2-2 with a 5.03 ERA, .214 opposing average and 37 strikeouts over nine appearances (eight starts) with Triple-A Round Rock in the Texas organization, before being released on May 15. Houser will be part of the White Sox starting rotation moving forward, according to manager Will Venable.
“Excited to insert him into the rotation,” Venable said. “His stuff has ticked up this year.
“He’s got experience, over 100 starts in the Major Leagues, so happy to slot him in. He’s going to put the ball on the ground against righties and got some different ways to get lefties out.”
Over eight Major League seasons with Milwaukee (2015, ’18-23) and the Mets (2024), the 6-foot-3, 240-pound hurler has a 32-39 record with a 4.21 ERA, one shutout and 484 strikeouts in 152 career outings (104 starts). Houser’s arrival into the rotation sends right-hander Bryse Wilson back to the bullpen.
Wilson, who was Tuesday’s originally scheduled starter, has a 6.62 ERA over four starts and a 5.28 ERA in 10 relief appearances for the White Sox this season.
“We’ll use him in some leverage spots. He’ll provide bulk out of the bullpen, also; he’s a great piece to have in the bullpen for us,” said Venable of Wilson. “Relievers largely depend on their strengths. They go into gameplans and attack modes with their strengths.
“For starters, they mix in a hitter's weaknesses a little more. For Bryse, he might have just gotten away from him and what he does well. I know they’re working on some stuff and excited to get him back in that role and comfortable pitching out of the bullpen.”
