NEW YORK -- The Rangers activated right fielder Adolis García from the 10-day injured list and put him in the starting lineup against the Mets on Sunday afternoon. To make room for García, Texas optioned outfielder Dustin Harris to Triple-A Round Rock.
García missed the last 10 games because of a right quad strain. The team expected him to be out longer, but after taking live batting practice on Saturday at Citi Field, García told the training staff and manager Bruce Bochy that he was ready to come off the IL.
“I thought [García would be out] longer than this,” Bochy said. “He started getting healthy, which you see sometimes. We were expecting another five to seven days [of missing time] until he was ready to go. He checked all the boxes. He is ready to play. That’s why he is out there.”
Before the injury, García was one of the Rangers’ hottest hitters, going 12-for-32 (.375) with a homer and seven RBIs in his last seven games.
“He was really swinging the bat well when he got hurt running down the line,” Bochy said. “He is a really good defender out there. He is a guy that hits in the heart of our order. It’s great to have him.”
As for Harris, he has gone 8-for-40 (.200) with a homer and two RBIs for the Rangers this season. His biggest hit came on Sept. 5, when his walk-off double helped the Rangers edge the Astros, 4-3, at Globe Life Field.
