MIAMI – Aaron Judge resumed taking on-field batting practice before the Yankees’ game against the Marlins at loanDepot park on Friday night, and manager Aaron Boone said the club hopes to activate the American League’s reigning Most Valuable Player on Tuesday or Wednesday at Texas.
Judge is on the 10-day injured list with a flexor strain in his right elbow, sustained while making a throw from right field.
Boone said the club plans to have Judge travel to Tampa, Fla., on Sunday to collect live at-bats at the team's player development complex with the intent of having him return as a designated hitter during the Rangers series.
Judge hurt the elbow on July 22 against the Blue Jays after trying to throw out Davis Schneider at the plate.
Grimacing in pain an inning later, Judge stayed in the game and went on to play the next two against Toronto and Philadelphia before being placed on the 10-day injured list.
While the Yankees have said there was no acute damage to Judge’s ulnar collateral ligament, he received a platelet-rich plasma injection on Saturday, when he was placed on the injured list.
Judge participated in some light fielding drills during the Yankees’ recent homestand, but he has not been throwing overhand. Boone has suggested Judge might resume throwing between Aug. 8-13.
