Judge, Ohtani dominating Hitter Power Rankings

May 29th, 2025

The Judge and Ohtani Show goes on.

Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani are dominating MLB.com's Hitter Power Rankings -- just like they did in the last edition -- and it's no wonder, because the two reigning MVPs are at it again in 2025. But there are also some new players moving up the list.

As always, the Hitter Power Rankings are based on a formula, constructed by MLB.com’s data team, that considers players’ recent performance, season-long performance and performance over the past 365 days. Those three categories are weighted so as to place the greatest emphasis on the first two.

Here are the newest Hitter Power Rankings. (All stats are through Thursday's games.)

1. , Yankees (Previously: 1)

We're running out of things to say about Judge's greatness at the plate. He leads the Majors in batting average (.391), on-base percentage (.488), slugging percentage (.739), OPS (1.227) and hits (81). He leads the American League in runs scored (51). And he has 18 home runs, so he's on pace for his fourth 50-homer season. That would tie him with Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa for the most all-time.

2. , Dodgers (2)

And then there's Ohtani, who might just win his third straight MVP Award, something only Barry Bonds has ever done. Ohtani leads the Majors with 20 home runs, putting him on track for even more than the 54 he hit last year. He has 11 stolen bases, too, so he's close to a 60-30 pace. No one's ever had a season like that, but this is Ohtani we're talking about.

3. , Dodgers (3)

Freeman just hits. He's batting .388 in May to raise his season average to .359, leading the National League batting race. He has 12 multi-hit games this month out of 24 games played. He's neck-and-neck with Ohtani for the best hitter in the NL -- Ohtani and Freeman rank 1-2 in the league in OPS. So there's no change in the top three of our Power Rankings.

4. José Ramírez, Guardians (Not ranked)

Ramírez is the first new name on the list, but it's no surprise that he's here, because J-Ram is always one of the best hitters in the Majors. And now he's on a 21-game hitting streak. Since May 6, when that streak began, the Guardians star is batting .393 with four home runs, six stolen bases and a 1.101 OPS.

5. , Red Sox (Not ranked)

Devers' slow start is well behind him now. He now leads the AL in RBIs on the season, with 50, thanks to a Major League-best 31 RBIs in May. And if you go a little farther back, Devers has been even better. Since April 26, Devers is batting .364 with 10 home runs, 36 RBIs and a 1.162 OPS.

6. , Phillies (9)

Schwarber is second only to Ohtani on the National League home run leaderboard. He has 18, including nine this month, as he's helped slug the Phillies past the Mets and into first place in the NL East. Those homers included the 300th of Schwarber's career on May 19.

7. , Mariners (Not ranked)

Raleigh leads the American League home run race with 19 long balls. The Big Dumper is having his best offensive season yet, even after last year's 34-homer, 100-RBI campaign. Raleigh has a 184 OPS+, meaning he's been 84% better than a league-average hitter. That's one of the top marks in the Majors, and it means even more coming from a catcher.

8. , Tigers (Not ranked)

After a sluggish start to the season, especially in the power department, Greene has heated up over the last month or so. Going back to April 26, the Tigers star is batting .310 with nine home runs, 28 RBIs and a .987 OPS. Meanwhile, the Tigers have emerged as a surprise heavyweight -- they currently have the Majors' best record.

9. , Padres (Not ranked)

Machado has been racking up hits this month. The Padres star third baseman is batting .356 in May, with four home runs and a .993 OPS. That brings Machado up to a .313 batting average on the season, a top-five mark among NL hitters.

10. , Cubs (Not ranked)

Suzuki, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker are leading a high-powered Cubs offense that has the team in first place in the NL Central. Suzuki and Crow-Armstrong rank first and second in the NL in RBIs, with Suzuki leading the way with 51 and PCA just behind with 50. Suzuki also has 14 home runs and a 152 OPS+.

Honorable mentions: Pete Crow-Armstrong (Cubs), Paul Goldschmidt (Yankees), Bryce Harper (Phillies), Ryan O'Hearn (Orioles), Isaac Paredes (Astros), Will Smith (Dodgers), Jacob Wilson (A's), James Wood (Nationals)
