Injury: Left groin strain

Expected return: Late August
Status: The club was hopeful that Donovan could avoid a trip to the injured list, but he was placed on the IL on Aug. 18. (Updated: Aug. 18)
CF Victor Scott II
Injury: Left ankle sprain
IL date: Aug. 17 (10-day injured list)
Expected return: Aug. 27
Status: Was placed on the IL on Aug. 17 after injuring his left ankle when trying to rob Aaron Judge’s home run in the top of the third inning on Aug. 16. Told MLB.com that an MRI revealed no structural damage in the ankle. (Updated: Aug. 17) More >>
1B Willson Contreras
Injury: Right foot contusion
Expected return: TBD
Status: Went through a short workout on Aug. 16 before the game and briefly tested the ankle again on Aug. 17. The club hopes to get him back in the lineup on Aug. 18 in Miami. (Updated: Aug. 17)
LHP John King
Injury: Left oblique strain
IL date: July 30 (15-day IL)
Expected return: August
Status: Began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Aug. 16. (Updated: Aug. 17)
3B Nolan Arenado
Injury: Right shoulder strain
IL date: Aug. 1 (10-day injured list)
Expected return: TBD
Status: Reported to the Cardinals’ Spring Training facility to begin a strength program for his shoulder. The process is expected to last 7-10 days before Arenado is able to do baseball activities at full speed. (Updated: Aug. 8) More >>
LHP Zack Thompson
Injury: Left lat strain (Grade 1)
IL date: March 27 (transferred to 60-day IL on April 7)
Expected return: TBD
Status: Manager Oliver Marmol said July 24 that Thompson had “a setback” in his recovery but that he was scheduled to begin a throwing program at some point the following week. It’s unclear at this point if there is enough time remaining in the season for Thompson to return to game action. (Updated: July 24)
