Exact dates vary each year but typically the program takes place over 10 days in July.

How do you select participants?

Participants are selected based on their application materials, personal essays, letters of recommendation, and an interview process. We look for well-rounded individuals who embody a spirit of service, leadership, and cultural openness.

Costs and Expenses

How much does it cost to participate?

There is no cost to participate in Lindos Sueños. All travel, lodging, meals, and program-related expenses are fully covered by the Boston Red Sox.

Are there any hidden or optional costs I should plan for?

Participants may wish to bring personal spending money for small souvenirs or optional incidentals. Otherwise, there are no required costs.

Travel Information

How do participants get to the Dominican Republic?

Group travel is organized and chaperoned from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Santo Domingo (SDQ). Travel logistics, including flights, baggage, and transportation within the Dominican Republic, are coordinated by the Red Sox.

Can parents accompany their child?

No. Part of the program's goal is for participants to gain independence and cultural immersion under supervised conditions. Parents are encouraged to stay connected with program staff and will receive updates throughout the trip.

Will I be able to contact my child during the trip?

Yes. Participants are allowed periodic access to phones to communicate with their families. Additionally, Red Sox staff will send regular updates and photos to parents.

Safety and Supervision

How is the safety of participants ensured during the program?

Safety is our top priority. Participants are accompanied at all times by trusted Red Sox staff members and local program coordinators. We partner with reputable lodging, transportation, and healthcare providers. A full risk management plan is in place, including access to medical support if needed.

What kind of adult supervision is provided?

A team of Red Sox employees and vetted adult chaperones travels with the group and stays on-site throughout the entire program. Staff-to-student ratios are kept low to ensure individualized attention and supervision.

Where will participants be staying?

Participants stay at a secure, Red Sox-affiliated facility near the Red Sox Dominican Academy. Lodging is safe, clean, and includes amenities like on-site meals, security personnel, and access to medical care if necessary.

What medical precautions are taken?

All participants must submit a completed health form, proof of vaccinations, and any required prescription information. We are equipped to manage allergies, medications, and minor medical issues on-site. In case of emergencies, participants are transported to a trusted local medical facility.

Will there be language barriers?

The program is bilingual. Many Dominican participants and staff are fluent in English, and there is translation support where necessary. Language immersion is part of the cultural experience.

Program Experience

What kinds of activities will my child participate in?

Participants spend their mornings working on community service projects such as building homes, painting schools, and assisting local communities. Afternoons typically include baseball activities, leadership sessions, and cultural outings to experience the Dominican Republic's rich history and traditions.

Is baseball a major part of the program?

Yes, but community service and leadership development are equally emphasized. Players of all skill levels are welcome - it is not a baseball camp but rather a community service and cultural exchange experience.
