Selected catcher Ali Sánchez to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester.
Recalled right-handed pitcher Zack Kelly from Worcester.
Transferred infielder Marcelo Mayer to the 60-Day Injured List.
Sánchez, 28, was acquired from the New York Mets yesterday in a minor league trade. The right-handed hitter was previously claimed off waivers by Boston from the Toronto Blue Jays on August 8, and appeared in one game for the Red Sox before he was designated for assignment on August 18. Originally signed by the New York Mets as an international free agent on July 2, 2013, the Venezuela native has played in 47 career Major League games with the Mets (2020), St. Louis Cardinals (2021), Miami Marlins (2024), Blue Jays (2025), and Red Sox (2025).
Kelly, 30, has made 17 appearances for Boston this season, posting a 5.56 ERA (14 ER/22.2 IP) with 25 strikeouts. The right-hander has also pitched in 23 minor league games (two starts) between Worcester (21 games, one start) and Greenville (two games, one start). Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Oakland Athletics in 2017, the Virginia native owns a 4.31 ERA (49 ER/102.1 IP) with 103 strikeouts in 87 career Major League games (three starts), all with Boston (2022-25).
Mayer, 22, was placed on the 10-Day Injured List on July 25 (retroactive to July 24) with a right wrist sprain. The left-handed hitter has played in 44 games with Boston this season, his Major League debut, batting .228 (29-for-127) with eight doubles and four home runs while making 28 starts at third base and seven at second base. Selected by the Red Sox in the first round (No. 4 overall) of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has also played in 43 games this season for Worcester, batting .271 (46-for-170) with an .818 OPS.
