Red Sox announce roster moves
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
Reinstated left-handed pitcher Brennan Bernardino from the Bereavement List.
Selected infielder/outfielder Abraham Toro to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 29.
Placed first baseman Triston Casas on the 10-Day Injured List with a left patellar tendon rupture.
Optioned right-handed pitcher Luis Guerrero to Triple-A Worcester.
Boston’s 40-man roster is now at 40.
Bernardino, 33, owns a 2.45 ERA (3 ER/11.0 IP) in 11 games this season, most recently tossing a scoreless, hitless ninth inning with two strikeouts on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Originally selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 26th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has posted a 3.52 ERA (45 ER/115.0 IP) in 125 career Major League games (nine starts) with the Seattle Mariners (2022) and Red Sox (2023-25).
Toro, 28, has played in 28 games for Worcester this season, batting .310 (31-for-100) with seven doubles, two triples, and two home runs while making 18 starts at third base, five at first base, three as the designated hitter, and two at second base. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the fifth round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Quebec native has played in 365 career Major League games with the Astros (2019-21), Seattle Mariners (2021-22), Milwaukee Brewers (2023), and Oakland Athletics (2024). The switch-hitter has made 134 career starts at third base, 115 at second base, 36 as the designated hitter, 11 at first base, and one in left field.
Casas, 25, was removed from last night’s game against the Minnesota Twins in the second inning. The left-handed hitter has played in 29 games this season, batting .182 (18-for-99) with three doubles and three home runs. Selected by Boston in the first round (No. 26 overall) of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has batted .241 (197-for-816) with 45 home runs and 120 RBI in 251 career games, all with the Red Sox (2022-25).
Guerrero, 24, has pitched in three games for Boston this season, tossing 4.0 scoreless innings with one hit and three strikeouts. The right-hander has also made eight appearances for Worcester, recording a 5.23 ERA (6 ER/10.1 IP) with one save. Selected by the Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Dominican Republic native has not allowed an earned run over his first 12 career Major League appearances, holding opponents to a .152 batting average (7-for-46) with two walks and 12 strikeouts over 14.0 innings.
