Phillies & Covenant House announce Sleep Out at Citizens Bank Park to support homeless youth on November 20
The Philadelphia Phillies and Covenant House, the largest nonprofit in the Americas in 34 cities across five countries providing safe shelter and supportive services to homeless and trafficked youth, are calling fans, business leaders and community advocates to join the Phillies Sleep Out at Citizens Bank Park.
This special charitable event, being held on Thursday, November 20, 7:00 p.m. until Friday, November 21, 7:00 a.m., invites fans 13+ the chance to sleep on the outfield at Citizens Bank Park. For this once-in-a-lifetime experience, fans are individually expected to raise a minimum of $1,000 in support of Covenant House PA and can sign up to reserve their spot at sleepoutphillies.org. *In case of inclement weather, an alternate ballpark location will be provided, as the event will be held rain or shine.
The Phillies Sleep Out is more than just a night without a bed. Current and former Covenant House residents will share about their journeys from homelessness to independence, experts will empower participants to meaningfully advocate for an end to youth homelessness, and participants will connect with each other in meaningful ways.
Monies raised will help advance solutions for the growing youth homelessness crisis in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, where Covenant House Pennsylvania has been operating services for 25 years, providing a safe place to sleep for children facing homelessness.
“Over 10,000 children in Philadelphia have experienced homelessness in just the last school year, and that is unconscionable to me,” said Phillies Managing Partner and CEO John Middleton. “We are committed to making a difference for the youth of our city, aiding in the important mission of Covenant House. It is our goal to make the Phillies Sleep Out at Citizens Bank Park the largest in the 15-year history of Sleep Outs, as we aim to bring shelter, stability and hope to far too many children who so desperately need it.”
In recognition of this announcement, Covenant House International’s President & CEO (and lifelong Phillies fan), Bill Bedrossian, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Tuesday’s 6:45 p.m. Phillies-Marlins game at Citizens Bank Park.
“Every young person deserves a safe place to call home,” said Covenant House Pennsylvania CEO Alexia Clarke. “At Covenant House PA, we remain resolute in our commitment to providing shelter, care, and hope to youth facing homelessness and human trafficking. The funds raised by the community champions who join the Phillies Sleep Out will be put to work immediately to support housing, food, medical and mental health services, education programs, workforce development, and critical resources for our street outreach. We can’t do this work alone and we are so grateful to the entire Phillies organization for making this possible.”
November 20 – Nationwide Sleep Outs Hosted by Covenant House
More than 4.2 million young people experience homelessness in the U.S each year. Last school year alone, over 10,000 children and youth in Philadelphia and 46,700 children and youth in Pennsylvania were identified as experiencing homelessness, a sharp increase from the previous year. Every November, Covenant House brings together a global community to confront this crisis head-on.
On November 20, Covenant House sites across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico are hosting Sleep Out events, including at MetLife Stadium in N.J. and Gillette Stadium in Mass., and the 2025 Sleep Out is expected to raise over $14 million to provide 24/7 shelter, sanctuary, and support to youth overcoming homelessness. Since 2011, more than 65,000 people have given up their beds in solidarity with homeless youth and raised more than $170 million for Covenant House.
Partners working together in Philadelphia to raise critical funds and awareness for youth experiencing homelessness include Cencora, Cisco, Seer Interactive, The Honickman Companies, Truist, CAMCO, Accenture, Lockton and YOU.
