Phillies and Toyota to Host a Special Tribute to Remember 9/11 and Honor Those Who Serve Our Community on ‘First Responders Night’
WHAT: On Thursday, September 11, the Phillies and Toyota will host First Responders Night, joining Major League Baseball to pause and remember those who lost their lives and pay tribute to the men and women who continue to bravely serve our communities and country.
The on-field tribute will begin at 6:45 p.m., prior to that night’s Phillies-Mets game. Highlights to include:
- Phillies players will wear 9/11 ribbon patches on their New Era caps, and the New York Mets will don FDNY and NYPD caps.
- Members of local police and fire departments will take part in the presentation of the 50 state flags. The Delaware State Police Honor Guard will also participate in the tribute.
- The national anthem will be performed by Delaware State Police Captain Jonathan Packard, who will also perform “God Bless America” during the 7th inning stretch. Following the anthem, there will be a moment of silence in recognition of those who lost their lives on 9/11.
- In addition, the Phillies and Toyota will recognize the incredible work of the Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the families of fallen and critically injured first responders and building healthy connections in the communities they serve. Executive Director Mark O’Connor and Associate Director Jack Costello will be presented with a $5,000 donation on behalf of Toyota by Phillies Chief Revenue Officer Jackie Cuddeback.
- Jazmin Hernandez, widow of Philadelphia Police Officer Jaime Roman, who was killed in the line of duty last year, will throw a ceremonial first pitch.
Also, at the end of the 3rd inning, SEPTA transit police officer Kevin Warg, who was injured in the line of duty, will be honored as the night’s Hometown Hero presented by Toyota.
